join the adventure!

ACUC is the first multi-discipline sports competition with a mission for good – help clean some of the harder to access coastal areas in Hong Kong.

This year’s event will be short but intense! A full on, 3 days weekend, for teams to work on their sites followed by 2 weeks of social media, community engagement and educational activities to turn the tide on waste and coastal pollution.

Event format will adapt to comply with government advice and social distancing regulations at the time

how the challenge works

Each team is assigned a difficult to access, polluted coastal area in Hong Kong. Throughout the challenge, teams compete with each other to achieve the best results.

The purpose of the challenge will not be limited just to litter collection, but also awareness, education and community engagement. Teams will thus be evaluated and score points based on the following criteria:

VOLUME: Number of bags of trash collected

‘EXTRA MILE’: Extra efforts made to have greater impact: from equipment procured, to applying creative means and ways to expand the team’s reach

SAFETY: Evidencing individual and team’s safety is prioritised

TEAMWORK: Showing concrete signs of teamwork and collaboration

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Raising awareness about the challenge and spreading the word

WALKING THE ECO TALK: practices teams put in place to minimise their environmental impact was the first edition of Adventure Clean Up Challenge and we were mesmerised by the passion, commitment and energy each and every one of the teams displayed.

site assignment

Each team will get a site assigned based on the members' skills and capabilities. The purpose is for teams to feel challenged enough, whilst being able to access and perform the cleanups in a safe manner. ACUC prides itself of being an adventurous, sporty, environmental challenge and we know this might mean different things for different people.

Each team will receive a detailed site sheet with all the necessary information including location, main challenges, access and safety recommendations.

community engagement

An extra 2 weeks post the clean up event (October 24-26th) will be given for each team to post videos, pictures and make calls to action that speak to the public, in order to raise awareness and engagement of people beyond the immediate challenge participants. Teams are also welcomed to do school or office talks during this period. All actions will be considered to choose ACUC 2020 winning team.

EVIDENCE SUBMISSION

Teams' performance will be assessed by a panel of judges, based on the online evidence submitted by the team, after each clean up and community engagement action. More details on how to submit this evidence will be provided to teams prior to the challenge
